On Shabbat 3rd September the community was delighted to host a special shabbat to celebrate three very special couples, all long-time members of the shul, who have racked up 145 years of marriage between them! A sponsored Kiddush was held after the service, attended by around 60 people.
Valerie and Michael Berkson celebrated their 45th anniversary, whilst Sheila and Mike Levy and Louise and Jeremy Saunders celebrated their Golden Weddings (50 years).
The service included special prayers for the couples as well as a sermon given by Rabbi Dr Tony Bayfield about the importance of living in a country with a free and fair justice system.
During the Kiddush a buffet lunch was provided, catered by some of the Council members, along with celebration cakes. The Shul Chairman, David Karat, gave a short speech of congratulations, followed by the couples being presented with some beautiful bouquets of flowers. There was also a short speech from a friend of Mike and Sheila’s, Geoff Corre, who had attended their wedding 50 years ago (1972).

It was truly a delightful community lunch and we wish all of the couples a hearty Mazeltov!
