This year’s activities focused on helping the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project and raising funds for humanitarian aid in support of Ukraine. The cheder community and night shelter project volunteers coordinated a collection of warm clothes, toiletries and dog food for distribution to those in need this winter. Cheder children also worked hard on promoting charitable events for Ukraine, which took place on the Mitzvah Day weekend at Impington Village College. Events included a friendly football match between the local Polish team, The Eagle FC, and Cambridge FC; a charity folk concert with Yiddish folk songs; folk dancing with audience participation; and a street collection to raise funds for a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine. The project, entitled Building Bridges in support of Ukraine, was a group initiative of many partners including Beth Shalom children, who designed posters and wrote stories about the magical power of sharing.
