Ethical Issues in Science, Technology and Medicine (ESTIME)

A group of local medics and scientists are pleased to announce a new initiative, namely an occasional series of meetings in the synagogue to discuss ethical issues raised by new advances in Science, Technology and Medicine.

Designed for a lay audience, the ESTIME meetings will each focus on a hot topic of current interest. The topics will be introduced by an expert in the particular subject followed by a general discussion with questions posed by the audience and panellists.

The first meeting will start with tea and cakes and will be followed by the discussion meeting, focusing this time on “Gene Editing”. Dr Barry Rosen will give a brief introduction to the topic. Meetings are scheduled to end at 5 pm. We hope that both scientists and non-scientists in the wider Jewish community will attend and provoke discussion of wide-ranging ethical issues and Jewish approaches.
