A Sephardic Journey through Words and Music
The concert will take the audience on a journey of the expulsion of the Spanish Jews in 1492. Leo Appel, a music student at St John’s College has transcribed and arranged various traditional Sephardic tunes from Spain and Morocco which will be performed alongside the music of composers with Jewish connections – Salamone Rossi, Juan del Encina (a crypto-Jew) and Leonora Duarte (a Marrano), with songs in Spanish, Italian, Ladino, Hebrew and Arabic.
